My Resolve for 2010

The one question everyone has been asking me lately is how I have been able to be in the industry and not of the industry. Honestly it is quite simple, I have learned how to truly gauge what the meaning of success is. In the same token, I have also come to grasp with being able to differentiate my talent from my gift.
Although I am a rising hip hop entertainer, I consider myself to be an artist and not a rapper. People ask me all the time what the difference is and if it has anything to do with one’s level of talent. Personally, I believe the difference between an artist and a rapper is nothing more than mentality. An artist has the ability to recognize that the whole world is their oyster while rappers more often allow their talent to define who they are. I never say I’m a rapper because before I ever pick up my pen and begin to compose a song I am already so many other things first- a husband, a father, a son as well as a friend that many depend on. The problem that the hip hop community is facing in my opinion stems from the fact that too many rappers don’t see themselves as anything more. Whenever we allow one thing that we do to dictate who we are to the world, regardless of what it is, we are definitely in big trouble. The failure in falling victim to this type of mindset limits our potential as well as our creative ability. I know that rapping for me is nothing more than a talent because if God chose to take away this ability my life would still hold a great value, hence the difference between talents and gifts.
We all have to realize that we have greatness beyond measure that God has placed within. Your talents will bring you fame but your gift will bring you fortune. Nine times out of ten, if there is something you can do exceptionally well that can make you money and bring you recognition, you have discovered your talent. The tricky thing about talent is some people are born with one while others have to work hard to develop one. Either way it goes, at the end of the day any talent that you possess will fade away or can be taken away all together unexpectedly. Once you recognize this fact you must never let your talent define you because you should value your life enough to know that you have more to offer the world than just a hot rhyme, a nice jumpshot or an astonishing left hook. But once you have found that thing that makes you conscious of how you are perceived when you’re using it, you have probably found your gift. The thing about a gift is because it can very rarely be taken away, it comes with grave responsibility. Gifts are what encourage change in ourselves as well as others. When my life ends my words will live on, that’s why my music is nothing more than a tool for me to spread the messages that weigh heavy on my heart. I know that making music is one of my talents so I try to incorporate my gift with the use of my ability to produce the kind of songs that invoke change and promote consciousness. I know that I am successful in life because of my wife, my children, my family and friends and most of all because of my personal Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Regardless of the current fads or popular music trends, I will always make it a point to convey through my songs the things that I find important in my life and relevant to the world.
I am just one man, no different from any other person walking the Earth. The only difference between me and most people is I don’t fear anything in this life so I don’t have to compromise any of my personal beliefs or visions. Once we all come to grips with our talents and our gifts and learn how to gauge success on a personal level, the whole world will be a better place.

Real Talk

Just wanted to take a moment to thanks all my real friends & true fans, you honestly do keep me inspired. Most people will never know how discouraging and emotionally challenging this business can be. It's still unbelievable to me how a talent can change your relationships with people. Every now & then I look back on my life and notice how many people are no longer around and then I ask myself, "Why were they ever associating with me to begin with?" It's really sad that at the end of the day most relationships are built on a "what can you do for me" basis. Once a person has received all that they feel you can give to them you may realize that they were never your friend, just someone who recognized your potential and felt they could capitalize off of your talent.
I feel like for the 1st time in my life I am at the peak of my full potential & I also notice that at this time I am alone- trust me, it's no coincidence. I don't know where jealousy & envy comes from but it's still something that I don't nderstand, probably because I have never personally felt it. Whatever your case may be, I'd advise you to evaluate all of your relationships and make sure that the reason people are around you is the same reason you are around them, period. My personal prayer is for everyone to become successful at whatever it is you choose to pursue in your life & I also pray that when you attain it it's just the way you pictured it in your head. It's not lonely at the top because there's only 1 top spot, it's lonely because by the time you get there most of the people you expected to be there with you have already separated themselves from you due to jealousy & envy. Everyone wants to be King, but no one wants to be in the Royal family...

I LOVE BEING ME!!!

As of yesterday, I am officially under Fiyaworks Entertainment Management for the next 2 years and I must say I am very excited! This new career step should undoubtedly benefit the entire Swagger Bird Regime and help get both my city and my crew the proper shine they deserve. After an unexpected media blitz due to yesterday's signing, I saw exactly why I've been asking Ms. Fiya to take me under her wing for the last 2 years. One of the things that has me excited other than her work ethic are the artists she chose to compose the roster for her company. Besides myself Fiya has sprinkled in people whom I feel are the city's best as far as their indiviual lanes are concerned and it was obvious last night that everyone does agree. From street cats like Raw Dawg Entertainment's Bumbino to upcoming talents like Streetlife Entertaimet's The Money Makers- who come with Houston pioneer OG Rated X of the Sex Fiends- Fiyaworks Entertainment will definitely be putting Houston in a new light from this year on out! And while I'm speaking about new light, I dont wanna fail to mention how thrilled I am about 2 of the coldest female emcees I have ever heard in my life- Shay Boogie and R.O.M.E., who are also a part of this dynamic roster. I told myself that I wasn't gonna be name dropping just because I didn't want to slight any artist by leaving them out but since I've started I might as well finish beacuse to not mention the 7 year old musical prodigy Yung Tonka or the lyrical phenom Finatic would be down right disrespectful!
And since I am paying respects right now, let me also give props to the newest member of the Swagger Bird Regime K.I.N.G. This guy is not only a good friend of mine but hands down I think he is the most lyrical southern emcee I know- and I say that with no disrespect to the great K-Rino. KING brings to the fam a swagg that no battle tested emcee would dare to try and I say that as an artist. As a betting man, I would put him up against every Smack DVD youtbe battler and confidently say they would be no match for him, period. I have never been more excited as either an artist or a CEO than I am right now about my clique and my new management. I have been working for so long to achieve a certain goal and for the 1st time in my own personal endeavors I see my vision coming to fruition. And speaking of achieving goals, thanks to my connects at the Trust Family in New York, I have also landed the opportunity to do my own major mixtapes with Evil Empire, Southern Smoke & Gangsta Grills! Maaaannn...I LOVE BEING ME RIGHT NOW!!!

STOP.....SWAGGER TIME!!!

So as you all know, I cut the hair and changed my name...now what? Well, to be quite honest, the game has just begun. In addition to officially bringing "swagger" back, I am launching the save the Texas music scene campaign in 2009 headed by yours truly. On behalf of myself and the entire Swagger Bird Clique, I will be putting out the kind of quality projects that made Texas a strong independent market in the early '90s. Among the list of upcoming artists that I will be introducing to the masses is my good friend and very talented Dallas lyricist Natureboy Rowe. His project, entitled "WCW: World Class Wreckin'," is a collaborative effort with producer Rick Flare that is already getting great expectations due to the leaked single "Candy Thang" featuring Pimp C! Also creating a buzz of his own is my artist & Swagger Bird captain Alejon with his sophmore release "Royalty Check." Of course, spearheading and closing the campaign is yours truly PKT with my highly anticipated project "Efly Manning" followed by the long awaited album "Retribution." This year Texas is in the hands- excuse me, I meant on the wings- of the great Swagger Bird Clique! Shout out to all my soldiers- Alejon, Natureboy Rowe, Lunny Capone, King James, Alazae, Abby Fish and Yung Stack- WE ARE TEXAS...WE ARE THE MOVEMENT!!
